This is an epic religious adventure film directed by Roland Joffe. Although the two male protagonists are a bit stereotypical and the content is a bit complicated, the images are very spectacular. The photography of some scenes is breathtakingly beautiful, and the rivalry between Jeremy Irons and Robert De Niro is also wonderful. The plot describes that in the 18th century, Spanish priest Gabriel was sent to the jungle of South America to establish a church for the Guarani people. He met the slave trader Rodosa and took this man who felt guilty for killing his brother to the destination to practice atonement. When their missionary mission was a little larger, the Portuguese and Spanish governments fought a war and massacre in the local area due to colonial conflicts, and the ending was very tragic.
