During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, a group of coal miners and railway workers led by Liu Hong and Wang Qiang in the Zaozhuang mining area in southern Shandong could not bear the oppression and devastation of the Japanese invaders. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, they secretly established a small and powerful guerrilla team. They "drove machine guns on flying cars", "stained foreign companies with blood", "smartly hit ticket cars", "attacked Lincheng at night", "attacked Gangcun", "gathered intelligence", "seized cloth cars", "went to Jinan" and "went to Xuzhou" and were active along the Shandong line of the Jinpu Line, the main railway lifeline of the Japanese invasion of China. They inspired the anti-Japanese morale of the people along the railway and effectively cooperated with the main force's anti-Japanese operations. The people called them the "Flying Tigers" and their official designation in the Eighth Route Army was the Railway Guerrillas.
